It is located in the house that is the birthplace of the Camisard chief Pierre Laporte, nicknamed Rolland, in the centre of a typical Cevennes hamlet, made of old stone with little alleys, at Mas Soubeyran, in the village of Mialet, a few kilometres from Anduze and Alès.
Fifteen rooms display nearly 2,000 genuine objects (items from traditional life in Cevennes, Camisard weapons, cards, stamps, bibles, handwritten documents, etc...) confirming the resistance and clandestine nature of the Huguenots over more than a century, from the revocation of the Edit de Nantes (1685) until the French revolution (1789).
Visits can be with commentary (about 1 hour) or without, guided by a leaflet (translated into numerous languages).
An educational and amusing document: 'Lets set off together to discover the Huguenot and Camisard history' is available for children aged 8 - 14 years old.
