The Desert Assembly

The Desert Assembly.
This is a great protestant gathering organised every year on the first Sunday in September in the grounds of the Desert Musem. About 20,000 people from all over France and abroad come together for a religious morning and historic speeches in the afternoon. The texts of the speeches are available on the Desert Museum website shortly after the Assembly.

The theme for the Assemblée
on Sunday September 7th 2008 :

"Le Réveil au Désert"

Protestantism started to arrive in Cevennes in a significant way after the XVIth century "Réforme".

Its history, its campaigns, its sometimes violent resistance to persecution and intolerance remain alive and fixed in the collective memory and landscape.
