Boutiques Paysannes in Languedoc Roussillon

The Boutiques Paysannes are a real alternative to conventional commercial networks and channels. The Boutiques Paysannes were created and are managed by farmers, sometimes in collaboration with craftsmen, and allow their members to present their production directly to consumers (short commercialisation circuit) whilst providing a level of service that individual producers could not offer :

• long opening hours, usually 6 or 7 days per week
• a large and varied range of products for sale all in one place
• the consumers meet the producers whose presence is based on a rota system and can discuss directly and completely openly about the products and how they were produced

The region of Languedoc-Roussillon currently 9 stores spread in the Gard, Herault and Lozere and with a total of about 160 producers and a dozen artisans.

The Boutiques Paysannes are also a genuine economic and social factor for small workshops and farms :

• they provide an opportunity for immediate revenues without interfering with the time needed for producing or processing, especially for young farmers or craftsmen who have just started
• they promote the creation of close links between producers and consumers and help ensure the survival of the economic activity that is essential for village and hamlet social life.
